Typically, this time of year Washington launches a Thanksgiving food drive to support families in need. Due to the pandemic, many food pantries and other organizations that provide meals to the hungry cannot accept in kind donations.  However, we know 2020 has been extra hard on families, and there are many in our community who could use support!

That's why next week (11/16-11/20) the Washington PTA will launch our 2020 Thanksgiving Drive to support the Samaritan House, a nonprofit organization that provides services to help meet the essential daily needs of more than 14,000 low income people each year in San Mateo County. Samaritan House provides safety net services for individuals and families in need while ultimately helping them move toward self-reliance, financial stability and opportunity.

Samaritan House is now in urgent need of the following items for the babies and children they serve:

  • pull-ups
  • diapers in sizes 4, 5, and 6
  • baby wipes
  • diaper cream
  • formula
  • baby food
  • dried foods
  • cereal
  • boxed mac 'n cheese
  • other dried meals
  • pasta
  • rice
  • beans

There will be a collection spot at the front door of the school (next to where the teachers set out items for pick up) starting 11/16. Please drop off any of the above items for donation! Items must be new, wrapped, and unopened. You can drop donations until 4pm, Friday 11/20.

If you would like to participate in the SUPER socially distanced, germ-free, digital version of this drive, please visit our Amazon wishlist HERE. You can purchase drive items online to be shipped directly to our Wildcat coordinator on the ground, all in the comfort of your home!

This drive is designed to engage your little Wildcat! Students can easily understand what these items are and why families would need them, help select items to donate, and help drop donations at the school. This is a great chance to start a conversation, build empathy, introduce your littles to the impact of giving, and teach them about their power to make a difference!

Thank you in advance for your generosity! Questions? Email Rebecca Hopkins.
